The star of Groundforce and Challenge Tommy has completed the project, due to be aired on Discovery Realtime The house, which has already won the accolade of being the most energy efficient ever built in the Fenland District, is proposed as a blueprint for affordable energy efficient housing of the future.

The Concept

The project was inspired by government initiatives to create affordable, sustainable housing and a desire by Tommy to make this housing modern, attractive and desirable. It was also important to create a home that could grow with the developing family. 
                                                                                       
                                                                                                           

What its about

The series follows Tommy as he selects the site, endeavours to secure planning approval and begins construction. Tommy and his Team attempt to construct an Eco-friendly Home using materials freely available to the building trade in a new and innovative way. Over the course of ten weeks we follow the construction process and also captures the character and events within the local community. With Tommy are his old mates Willy and Tony as well as lots of new "characters."  

 

The series, titled "Tommy Walsh's Eco House"  was commissioned by Discovery Real Time (Sky channel 240). Due to poular demand, the series is regularly repeated so keep an eye on TV liistings.

 

 

So Where Did It All Start ?

Well the project has been in discussion for just under two years, but I suppose the first time we sat down to search for building plots was spring 2006. The location of the plot was a major factor. We needed somewhere that was within easy driving distance of my home in Hackney and the home of my production company in Birmingham. Cambridgeshire was ideal, half way between both of us and the Fenland area offered lots of building plots at a reasonable price. There was no point building an affordable house on a plot costing a quarter of a million pounds!
